Climate protection is health protection!

In order to provide better health outcomes in the view of increasing climate change, a better understanding of the interactions of climate change impacts and their health consequences, but also the role of climate protection is required. However, matters of climate change and public health are still insufficiently communicated in higher education of health care and research – this is where the e-learning tool CliMap-HEALTH comes in.

CliMap-HEALTH aims to impart technical and practical knowledge about the effects of climate and environment on our health in the format of an interactive world map. With this project, HAW is setting an important signal to address climate change as an interdisciplinary challenge in the training of future actors. The web tool CliMap-HEALTH will be available as an open, modifiable teaching-learning tool. The teaching-learning tool primarily addresses students of health sciences and public health in the context of tertiary education. The content, which is prepared as a web application, is delivered to students via teachers at universities and universities of applied sciences. For this purpose, the learning tool can be flexibly and individually embedded in existing teaching concepts, and can extend basic modules (e.g. climate as a determinant of health), as well as meaningfully supplement applied modules (e.g. transdisciplinary adaptation strategies to climate change).

The „CliMap-HEALTH“ project is one of many online-learning initiatives of the Hamburg Online University (HOOU). The HOOU aims to enrich and supplement classic classroom teaching activities at universities through digital technologies. The learning opportunities offered by the HOOU are freely accessible on their website to all interested parties. The special feature of their concept lies in the ambition to create a digital learning space in which students, lecturers and the interested public can meet to work together on interdisciplinary, cross-university projects with an academic focus.
